FAQs

Each lesson lasts for 2-2.5 hours.

We meet in Summerleaze Beach car park. We have a van and trailer set up at the far end of the car park near the beach entrance, you can’t miss us! Meet us there 5 minutes before your lesson so we can get some paperwork all filled out and then get you suited and booted ready for surfing!

All you need to bring with you is your swimming costume to go underneath the wetsuit that we provide, and a towel to get dry with at the end.

The lessons vary depending on the time of year.

During the summer (July-August) we run morning sessions from 9am, afternoon sessions from 12 noon and some evening sessions around 5/6pm.

Over the rest of the year we base sessions off the tide and conditions so they don't always run at set times.

We teach from 8 years old in public lessons and from 5 years old in private 1:1 lessons.

If you cancel far enough in advance of your booked lessons, yes we can offer a refund. We do not offer refunds if you cancel within 2 weeks of your lesson. We therefore recommend you take out suitable holiday insurance. If you can't make your lesson for whatever reason, we can also offer a gift voucher to give you time to come back and take your lesson another time (valid for 1 year).

We recommend you take out travel insurance in case of cancellation due to illness etc.

Yes, subject to weather and coach availability. We have all the best equipment to keep you warm through the coldest months of the year. To book during the winter, you will need to call the office as online booking may be unavailable. The only days we are always “closed” are 25th December and 1st January

We provide everything you need to surf; boards, wetsuits and even wetsuit hats, boot and gloves when needed, all included in the price of the lessons. We have soft boards, soft top/hard bottom boards and hard boards of all shapes and sizes; if you want to try please make a note when booking.

Our smallest wetsuits are children’s extra small and our biggest wetsuits are adults extra extra large. So we should have a wetsuit to fit you no matter how big or small you are.

If you want to wear your own wetsuit and bring your own board, that's fine too!

Fortunately, Summerleaze Beach is really well protected in rough seas or strong winds. We can often surf at Summerleaze on beginner friendly waves when everywhere else in the area is too rough or too dangerous. If the wind gets too high and becomes dangerous to surf, we will not take any customers out in the sea, we can re-arrange your lessons to a day with better conditions.

It is extremely rare for us to have no surf. However, if we decide the conditions are unsuitable, we will offer you a lesson on another day or a gift voucher. See our booking conditions for full details

Our surf courses for beginners all take place in waist depth water. We are experienced at teaching people of all ages and with varying levels of fitness. The great thing about our lessons is that you can take them at your own pace and have a rest whenever you like. However, we do require all students to be able to swim a minimum of 50 metres without resting.
